Short answerThe GAPP program is the Georgia Pediatric Program, a Georgia Medicaid program that pays for skilled nursing and personal care in the home for medically fragile children under 21. It's approved on medical need, and families usually pay nothing once it's approved.
What it does
- Pays a Medicaid-enrolled nursing agency to send an RN, LPN or trained aide to your home
- Covers a set number of hours approved for your child's medical needs
- Helps children who need hospital-level or nursing-facility-level care live at home
What it doesn't do
- It isn't a cash benefit. Medicaid pays the agency, not the family.
- It doesn't replace your child's caregivers. Families stay part of the care team.
- It doesn't give Medicaid coverage by itself. Your child needs Medicaid first, often through Katie Beckett.
- It doesn't continue past the 21st birthday.
